Welcome to the The Kings Mile!
In the shadow of Canterbury Cathedral lies the historic King's Mile. Canterbury’s most diverse and culturally unique shopping district.
The historic King's Mile is Canterbury's alternative to high street shopping with a wealth of independent businesses. Whether you are for fashion,
gifts, jewellery, musical instruments, antiques, health & beauty, homewares, pubs, restaurants and cafes you'll find it all on the King's Mile, probably the best selection of independent
retailers in Kent.
But what really makes the area standout is a commitment to service that only an owner-run business can offer. On the King's Mile we value our
customers.
If after all that shopping you fancy a bite to eat the King's Mile is home to the best Canterbury has to offer. Whether you are looking for a sandwich and a
pint or a slap up meal wih champagne you will find the perfect pub, cafe, bar or restaurant on the King's Mile.
And as if that wasn't enough, take some time to soak up the local history. Palace Street is home to Conquest House where the four knights met the night
before they Killed Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. The original wall and gateway to Archbishop Lanfranc's palace, mentioned in the Domesday Book can still be seen in Palace Street through
which archbishops and crowned heads of England including Henry VIII and Elizabeth I passed.
More recently 52 Palace Street was home to Mary Tourtel, creator of Rupert the Bear.
